This is general information, not tax advice. Your situation depends on the facts and on your state, so talk to a qualified tax professional.
A prize doesn't become tax-free because you entered for free, or because the site calls itself a social casino.
What the IRS says about prizes
IRS Publication 525 says prizes and awards are generally included in income: cash at face value, non-cash prizes at fair market value.
What the IRS says about gambling winnings
IRS Topic No. 419 says gambling winnings are fully taxable and must be reported, including the fair market value of non-cash prizes. Losses can only be deducted if you itemize on Schedule A and keep records, and never for more than the gambling income you report.
The 2026 change to deducting losses
The federal tax law passed in July 2025 tightened that rule from the 2026 tax year on: you can deduct only 90% of your gambling losses, still capped at your gambling winnings. Someone with $10,000 in winnings and $10,000 in documented losses can deduct $9,000, leaving $1,000 taxable even though they broke even. Bills to restore the full deduction have been introduced in Congress but haven't passed, and the IRS topic page above may lag the change. This applies only if your sweepstakes prizes are treated as gambling winnings in the first place.
Whether a particular sweepstakes-casino prize counts as a prize, gambling income or something else can depend on the facts. We don't classify it for you.
Withholding, forms and "no form"
IRS Publication 505 covers withholding on certain winnings. Depending on the payment type and amount, an operator may or may not send you a form. Not getting a form doesn't mean the income isn't reportable. Topic 419 says so in plain terms for gambling winnings.
State taxes
States differ. Some have no income tax, and others treat prizes or gambling losses their own way. Your state revenue department is the place to check.
Keep records
Save redemption confirmations, payment records, account histories and any tax forms. If you plan to deduct losses, the IRS expects a diary or similar record backed by supporting documents.
Are Gold Coins taxable?
A Gold Coin balance has no redemption value, so it isn't a prize. What counts is anything of real-world value you actually receive.
FAQ
Are sweepstakes casino prizes taxable?
Generally, yes. IRS Publication 525 treats prizes and awards as income in most cases. A tax professional can tell you how that applies to you.
If I don't receive a tax form, do I still report?
Possibly, yes. Not getting a form doesn't make the income non-taxable.
Can I deduct my losses?
Possibly, if you itemize, keep records and your prizes count as gambling winnings. From the 2026 tax year only 90% of gambling losses are deductible, and never more than your winnings. See IRS Topic No. 419 and ask a tax professional.
Do state taxes apply?
That depends on your state.
