How We Rate Sweepstakes Casinos
Each casino gets two scores: an Editor Rating for its verified terms and a Market Signal for its online reach. Our default rankings combine them, half and half, into an Overall Score. No operator pays us, and every link goes straight to the operator’s site. The facts behind the rating are checked first (see how we verify).
1. Editor Rating (out of 5)
A fixed formula, applied the same way to every casino. Each of seven dimensions is scored 1–5 from facts we verified on the operator’s own pages, using the thresholds below. The overall rating is the weighted average of the dimensions we could score. A dimension with no verified data is shown as “not scored”. It isn’t counted as zero or assumed to be good, and the overall rating is only published when scored dimensions cover at least 70% of the weight. 89 of 93 casinos currently meet that bar.
| Dimension | Weight | How it’s scored |
|---|---|---|
| Redemption terms | 25% | Cash minimum (≤50 SC = 5 … >150 SC = 2), number of redemption methods (4+ = 5 … 1 = 3), and the fastest operator-stated processing time (minutes/hours = 5, 1–5 business days = 4, up to 10 days = 3, up to 30 days = 2.5). Average of the parts that are verified. If the operator publishes no redemption terms and itself says it offers no monetary prizes, this scores 1. |
| Free-play value | 20% | Free Sweeps Coins on sign-up (10+ = 5, 5+ = 4.5, 2.5+ = 4, 1+ = 3.5, less = 3), mail-in entry (documented = 4, 5+ SC per request = 5), and stated playthrough (1x = 5, higher = 3.5). |
| Availability | 15% | Jurisdictions where prize play is available after operator exclusions, Gold-Coin-only states and state bans: 15 or fewer = 1, scaling linearly to 45+ = 5. |
| Transparency & trust | 15% | Starts at 2. +1 named operating company, +1 five or more operator-sourced facts, +1 state list verified in the last 60 days; −1 if a state regulatory action is on record. Clamped 1–5. |
| Purchase options | 10% | Number of operator-listed purchase methods (5+ = 5, 3–4 = 4, 1–2 = 3); +0.5 for crypto support (max 5). |
| Support | 10% | Operator-stated contact channels: email, live chat, phone (1 = 3, 2 = 4, 3 = 5); +0.5 for 24/7 (max 5). |
| Game library | 5% | Operator-stated game count: 2,000+ = 5, 1,000+ = 4.5, 500+ = 4, 200+ = 3, fewer = 2. |
The formula doesn’t measure how a site feels to use, how good the games are, or what payouts are like in practice. That would take hands-on testing and player reports, and if we ever add them they’ll be labeled separately.
2. Market Signal (0–100)
Market Signal measures each casino’s online footprint, not the casino itself. It uses Ahrefs and Semrush data about the operator’s own website and is the same method (version 4) we use across our sites:
- Traffic Strength (25). Organic traffic, a 3-month average blended from both providers.
- Search Visibility (20). Ranking keywords weighted by position (top 3 count most).
- Authority (15). Ahrefs Domain Rating and Semrush Authority Score, averaged.
- Brand & Market Presence (10). Referring domains from both providers.
- Momentum (20). Traffic, top-10 keyword and referring-domain growth, minus a penalty for volatility. The trend label (Rising Fast → Declining) uses the same three growth signals, weighted 40/30/30, each capped at −100% to +200% and measured against the median of all tracked casinos, so “Rising” means growing faster than the sweepstakes market. Bands: Rising Fast 35+ points above the market, Rising 5–35, Stable within ±5, Cooling −5 to −20, Declining below −20.
A few big sites dominate counts like traffic, so each count is log-scaled and normalized within the tracked group of sweepstakes casinos. A score of 50 means “typical for this group”. Market Strength (where it stands) and Momentum (where it’s heading) are shown separately; brands too new to measure growth are scored on strength alone rather than treated as zero growth.
Data Confidence
When Ahrefs and Semrush disagree about a site’s traffic, keywords or links, we lower the separate Data Confidence label (High, Medium or Limited) rather than the score itself, so you can see when to read a number with caution.
A casino gets a Market Signal only once we have both Ahrefs and Semrush data for its site; newer casinos show none until then. We publish the scores, not the providers’ underlying traffic, keyword or link figures.
3. Overall Score: how lists are ranked
Our default rankings use one Overall Score out of 100 that weighs both parts equally: 50% Editor Rating (converted to a 0–100 scale, where 1 out of 5 is 0 and 5 out of 5 is 100) and 50% Market Signal. A casino with strong terms but little reach, and one with big reach but weaker terms, can end up close together, so each table also lets you sort by either score on its own.
Casinos without an Editor Rating (not enough verified facts yet) get no Overall Score and are always listed after the rated ones, ordered by Market Signal. A rated casino without Market Signal data is scored on its rating alone. The rule-based “best for” lists sort by their own published criterion instead, and use the Overall Score only to break ties. Nobody pays for placement.
